Major Lazer just posted this collaboration with UK’s Jack Beats. Based off of the lyrics, “Knock the Fuck Down” I’m assuming KYD stands for Knock You Down. Its heavy kick drum will def be heard at many shows knocking the wind out of anyone in the front row. Enjoy!

Last November, Seattle’s Kid Smpl released Skylight, his first official album, via Hush Hush Records. The imprint, run by Kexp’s Alex Ruder, has managed to showcase the best introspective electronic music from the Pacific Northwest. The label has gathered a collective of likeminded artists that have created a new genre of electronic called “Night Bus” which they describe as “a multi-genre aesthetic that elaborates on the world of headphones, late-night travels, intimate encounters, and contemplative rides on public transportation.” While this music is not necessarily created with the dance floor in mind, the label has created quite a stir and garnered itself a cult following. Label mates Kid Smpl and DJAO were both featured on Friends of Friends “Show Me The Future” compilation. Kid Smpl was also featured on XLR8R’s prestigious Bubblin’ Up which aims to showcase up and coming electronic artists.

On May 28th Hush Hush released a remix album of Skylight and followed it up the following week with a second installment. Both volumes are free for download on the labels bandcamp page and pack a slew of inventive covers, remixes and reworks from some of the top west coast producers like Jerome LOL and DevonWho. The remix albums also pack tracks from up and comers like DJAO and IG88 who are helping to shape the pacific northwest’s vibrant electronic music scene.

I first encountered the Australian native, Tornado Wallace, on one of Tim Sweeny’s eclectic Beats in Space mixes.  First off, in my opinion, he has one of the best names out there for a producer.  Secondly, and more importantly, TW’s esoteric mastery of samples leads him to create music that isn’t like any standard genre.  Some would call it “Disco-Tinged” Dream House but however you label it; Wallace’s work is both oddly familiar and yet incredibly fresh.  Check out these tracks (I’ve included a great Matthew Dear rework in here as well) :

I always love finding myself writing about new upcoming NY producers. Well a new one on my radar is Curses, and the guy has literally just stepped out into the electronic scene. His first ever release “So Good” makes its way onto Marble Recordings on July 1st, and brings in a unique house vibe. He’s gained massive support from Heidi, Maya Jane Coles, Jackmaster, Skream, Justin Martin, Lightyear, Brodinski, and many more. It really is crazy to think that Curses has only just released himself to the world this past month and has already done a guest mix for Heidi on Radio 1; he also did a mix for Skream and Benga as well! All are featured below, so make sure to take a listen and I can promise if you’re a real house music fan you won’t be disappointed.

WAIT, sorry I have actually just realized after already posting this up that Curses is none other than Drop The Lime! This is really cool to see how artists’ are making themselves alter egos and expanding their musical flavor. Check out how his new alias Curses holds up in the future.

Coming off his first release on Hot Creations, DeMarzo has a sample of his three track EP “Draw A Line.” All three tracks have been heavily supported in Jamie jones, Richy Ahmed and Lee Foss’s sets. They all demonstrate a slick, solid deep-house sound that evoke a traditional house feel whilst moving the genre forward at the same time.

DeMarzo has had recent releases on Noir, This IS Recordings, Warung Records, Glasgow Underground, Resonance Records, Nurvous, Acid Fruits, Loulou Records & Nasty Funk.

For a little background on this rising producer, he is said to have inherited his love and passion for music from his father after being enrolled in the Yamaha Keyboard school at the age of 8. Through his years writing and performing live, his talents flourished and he took his musical love further by studying music technology at university.

From the sounds of this new EP Demarzo is well on his way to being a huge favorite of mine, so make sure to listen and tune in for more info on official release dates and enjoy!
